Appearance: Broad shouldered and tall for his age at six feet even, the silver-haired Kanji carries himself in a slightly slouched manner. Maybe it's to go along with his street punk look of black skull and crossbones tank top, black jeans, and black shoes. He also has a skull and crossbones tattoo, and a small scar over his left eye. Add to this a few piercings and some metal chains on said jeans, and Kanji dons the classic punk look.....complete with a scowl for strangers, or anyone that gives him an attitude. (Or anyone that really looks at him in a way he deems "wrong" or insulting to him.)
Personality: Kanji is, to begin with, an aggressively tempered and simple minded young man. Due to the loss of his father, which will be explained in his history, he was raised by his mother in Inaba. She owned a Textile business, which, as Kanji got older, ended up embarrassing him some, especially since he had been learning to sew and make things to help his mother. Young girls made fun of him, and boys laughed at him and rejected him. As such, Kanji saw fit to act a certain way, and beginning in middle school, got the reputation of being a bit of a bully. His rowdiness intensified and his reputation grew worse in high school when he beat up a gang of bikers that were causing trouble.
His behavior is mostly due to the fact that the...softer side of him is something he's ashamed of, so he covers it up with a tough guy attitude, as he has grown to believe it's what a man should be. They shouldn't sew, or anything like that. As such, he's impatient, takes offense to some things very easily, and is even easier to anger if you're a stranger, or if a friend is in danger. He can be restrained, but sometimes, not even his friends can manage it.
When it comes to relationships, he's also very easy to make uncomfortable or fluster. He isn't sure whether he likes girls or boys, and doesn't seem to overly mind this after he ends up accepting it. Since finding out that Naoto Shirogane was actually a girl, Kanji has become a bit more comfortable with himself, and while he seems to lean towards women, he likely still likes men too. Speaking of Naoto, one of the people that has a great effect on him is indeed the young girl, a fellow friend and Persona user. When she's around, he tends to get flustered automatically.
Abilities/Strengths: Kanji can, like his friends, make use of something called a "Persona". His is of the Emperor arcanum, and its' name is Take-Mikazuchi, and it is lightning based. Later, the Persona evolves into Rokuten-Mao. When not using his Persona, Kanji is the muscle man, his preferred weapon of choice being chairs, shields, boards.....anything flat, sturdy and swingable. If he were to be weaponless, he has plenty of street type experience, and can get into down and dirty street fighting with no worries.
This isn't really anything noteworthy, but Kanji is a great tailor as well, and can make dolls.
Weaknesses: Aside from the fact that he's completely mortal and killable, Kanji is in fact a pretty normal 15 year old. He's strong, especially for his age, but not in any incredibly overdone or exaggerated way. With his Persona, he did have a great weakness to Wind attacks, but upon the Persona's evolution, the weakness became negated. So in this area, he's as affected by things as other humans.
History: Kanji was born in Inaba to his mother and father, who owned the town's Textile Shop. His father passed when Kanji was still just a small boy, and as such, he grew up with no fatherly figure, just his mother and the shop. As he got older he learned how to tailor and make things in order to help his mother. This made him the subject of teasing not just from boys, but also the girls. He quickly became a sort of outcast, a loner, and was difficult to befriend. The older he got, the meaner he got, a bad attitude becoming his way to keep others at bay, and to keep himself isolated. Since people already thought a certain way about him, he went ahead and figured to give them what they assumed he was.
As such, he gained the reputation of being a "punk", troublemaker, bully, and various other things. His clashings with biker gangs and just about anyone else has also put him in poor relations with the local police. Kids at school feared him greatly, despite him hardly ever even attending said school.
Up until meeting Souji and friends, Kanji didn't really care about the murders overall, so when they realized he was the next target at the time, they tried to follow him. Unfortunately for them, he was with Detective Prince Naoto Shirogane the first time around, and actually chased down the group when they tried following the pair. This didn't stop them though, and they once again tried following him, but this time when he was alone. Again they were caught, and again Kanji threatened them and chased them away.
He ended up being caught by the killer, but was saved by Souji and the others before anything could be done. After denying his mixed feelings for so long, Kanji decided to face his Shadow and accept his confused feelings, and to own up to things. After that, Kanji got his own Persona, Teddie gave him a pair of glasses, and he became a part of the group. When asked about how he was taken, Kanji could remember nothing.
He helped them save Rise, when they nabbed a young man named Mitsuo who claimed to be the killer, and also helped when they saved Naoto. Kanji was very gung-ho and impatient about getting to save Naoto as well...more-so than when they saved Rise or really with anything.
Upon finding out that Naoto, who he had an interest in was a girl, he felt a bit more re-assured in regards to his own feelings, and he was actually more understanding towards her than the group. Once she was saved and gained her own Persona, she was included in the group and given her own glasses as well. During a more peaceful time during everything, Kanji was hanging out with Souji when they came across a young boy that reminded Kanji much of his own situation as a boy. Out of an act of kindness, Kanji made the boy a doll.
Eventually, the group discovered that the person thought by police to be the killer, was indeed only the killer of one person, and it wasn't even one of the tv killings, nor it did it match that killer's profile. They ended up figuring it out once Souji ended up being taken into custody by his uncle Dojima. Right after this, Nanako, Dojima's daughter, was kidnapped by the real killer, who was revealed to be Namatame, the man involved in an affair with Mizuru Hiiragi, the first victim of the killings.
They rushed to help, and went into the tv to save Nanako. During the fight with Namatame, Kanji was hit, went down....and ended up awakening to somewhere completely new.
